ELECTRIC LAWN MOWER LITHIUM BATTERIES BUYING GUIDE

What You Need to Know First
From a lead-acid battery to a lithium battery in a Ryobi mower, you can expect more runtime, lighter weight, fast charging and less maintenance.

What type of mower does it fit?
+ Ryobi RM480e / RM480ex / RY48111
+ ERyobi ZT480e / ZT480ex / RY48ZTR75
+ Ryobi RY48ZTR100
+ Ryobi ZT540e / RY48140
How to Choose Electric Mower Batteries?
1. Dimensions
+ Measure the dimensions of total battery stystem or the room for the stock battery.
+ Generally, the tray or bracket is adjustable, so be sure to account for its dimensions in your planning.

2. Voltage
+ Determine what voltage for your electric mower.
+ If you want higher voltage, you may need to swap the motor and controller as well

3. Capacity
+ You can choose single battery or multiple packs to extend the runtime.
Should I Use Lithium Charger?
The charger you choose must be compatible with the battery chemistry you're using, whether it’s flooded, AGM, or lithium-ion.

Can I use SLA chargers for LiFePO4 battery?
+ Please use a LiFePO4 battery charger, as most SLA chargers use an incompatible charge algorithm. Using an SLA charger may reduce battery performance and lifespan, or even cause irreversible damage.

Battery Charge Voltage Range Best Charge Voltage
12V 14.2V - 14.6V 14.4V
24V 28.4V - 29.2V 28.8V
36V 42.6V - 43.8V 43.2V
48V 53.25V - 54.75V 54.0V

Installation Guide
🔋 1. Document the Disassembly: Take clear pictures of every step as you disassemble the mower. This will serve as a reference during reassembly.

🔋 2. Remove the Old Batteries: Carefully remove the old batteries. Be cautious—they are heavy! Use proper lifting techniques, engaging your legs to avoid strain.

🔋 3. Install the New Batteries: Insert the new batteries and rewire them exactly as the old ones were connected. Double-check the connections to ensure accuracy.

🔋 4. Test the Mower: At this stage, the mower should be operational. Test it to confirm everything is working correctly.

🔋 5. Modify the Charge Connector: Disassemble the charge connector from both the original and new chargers. Combine the cable from the new charger (including the soldered pins) with the handset/handle/connector from the old charger to create a compatible cable for the mower’s existing charge port. This process should take about 10 minutes.

🔋 6. Charge and Verify: Plug everything in to charge. Allow the smart charger to confirm that the batteries are charging properly.
What is Pre-charging Circuit?
When replacing the battery of a Ryobi lawn mower with a lithium battery, a pre-charging circuit is essential to prevent a large inrush current from damaging the battery, electronic components, or the motor controller.

1. High Capacitance in Motor Controllers
+ Electric mowers typically use motor controllers equipped with large capacitors to smooth out voltage ripples and ensure stable power delivery to the motor.
+ When the system is powered off, these capacitors discharge. Upon connecting a new battery—especially a lithium battery—the empty capacitors can draw a sudden, high current as they attempt to recharge, leading to potential damage.

2. Lithium Battery Characteristics
+ Lithium batteries have low internal resistance and can deliver high currents almost instantaneously.
+ When connected to the mower’s system without pre-charging, this can result in a massive inrush current, which may:
*Damage the battery by overstressing its cells.
*Blow fuses or trigger protection circuits within the battery pack.
*Stress or damage electronic components in the mower’s control system due to the sudden current spike.
*Cause arcing at the battery terminals, leading to sparking or connection damage.

3. Role of a Pre-Charging Circuit
+ A pre-charging circuit mitigates these risks by introducing a controlled, limited current to charge the capacitors gradually before fully connecting the battery.
+ It typically consists of a resistor in series with the battery, which restricts the current flow, allowing the capacitors to charge safely. Once the capacitors are sufficiently charged, the resistor is bypassed, and the battery can deliver full current without risk.

Summary
+The pre-charging circuit is a critical safeguard that protects both the lithium battery and the mower’s electrical components from the damaging effects of inrush current.
+ By ensuring a controlled initial charge, it enhances the longevity and reliability of your upgraded mower system.
Care & Maintenance
Keep the Batteries Clean
Periodically inspect your battery terminal connections to ensure they are clean, secure, and protected from the elements, as corrosion can impair battery performance and pose safety risks.

Store the Batteries Properly
If you intend to store your golf cart for an extended period, remove the batteries and place them in a cool, dry location. Make sure the batteries are fully charged and covered to shield them from dust and debris.

Finally, Recycle Your Old Batteries
If your old batteries are flooded lead-acid or AGM, they are 99% recyclable. Simply bring them in for recycling when you buy your new golf cart batteries, or take them to a recycling center or automotive shop.

Contact our expert team, we’ll help you select the best battery for your golf cart or upgrading your golf cart battery, maximizing its performance and endurance.

LIFEPO4 GOLF CART BATTERY FAQ

How to install Enjoybot LiFePO4 battery on golf cart?

Simply remove the lead-acid batteries and replace them with the Enjoybot Lithium Battery. In case of multiple battery packs, please attach cables in series, secure the holding bracket, and the installation is complete. The connection example diagram is as follows:

How should LiFePO4 golf cart batteries be placed?

As long as the battery is not inverted, it can be installed in various orientations. However, ensure that the positive and negative terminals are properly aligned and not positioned at the top if the battery is placed on its side.

A Few Things to Consider When Replacing Battery

Please note that when multiple identical LiFePO4 batteries are connected in series, the voltage difference between each battery is required to be less than 40mV, otherwise your battery may not be fully charged or the battery capacity may be insufficient.

Therefore, it is necessary to measure the voltage of each battery in the battery pack before installing the battery. If the voltage difference is greater than 40mV, you need to manually balance the voltage first, the specific operation is as follows:

Suppose you buy 4 12.8V 100AH LiFePO4 batteries
(1) Please remove all battery cables and equipment, and use DC 14.2-14.4V charger or DC power supply to fully charge the 4 batteries respectively;
(2) Please connect the 4 batteries in parallel, let the 4 batteries connect in parallel for more than 12 hours, and then untie the cables connecting the 4 batteries in parallel;
(3) Please test the voltage of the 4 batteries separately. If the voltage difference between the 4 batteries is ≤40mV, it means that the voltage has been balanced and can be installed on the golf cart in series.
